The story of the establishment of the alternative camp spreads a long way to the alternative camp project which has started in year 2002 (see www.alternativecamp.org). The Project which includes vacation, sports, education and integration has been shared by more than 2,500 handicapped and more than 600 national and international volunteers in 5 years. It has gained sound success within this much of time and introduced positive effects to both the participants and the volunteers’ lives; and this has proven the fact that the approach which feeds and supports Alternative Camp Project has thoroughly contributed to the efforts to solve the handicapped problem. For this reason, Alternative Life Association (AYDER) has been founded as a derivative of Alternative Camp Project in order to put that approach in use in projects and other innovative works to ease the lives of the handicapped.
Alternative Life Association has been established in order to create alternative solutions for all the handicapped people in Turkey and to produce innovative and sustainable projects and thus to fill the gap to reach the aim of "barrier free Turkey".
AYDER aims to create alternative and innovative social projects which include education, sports, tourism and health elements for the handicapped and disadvantaged groups and thus convert this “major minority” to a productive and active society that can take part in social life independently.
AYDER is the first NGO who signed UN "Global Compact". By signing the Compact, AYDER demonstrated that the association is a volunteer together with other institutions having social responsibility for a long lasting and real social transformation.
